TO/FROM

Revised 6/9/19

With the inclusion of family in this trip, Dave S is driving a separate vehicle to the trip.  Bruce is suggesting a change to the to/from plan to go 645 miles (9-1/2 hr) directly to/from Hancock MD on the first day. https://goo.gl/maps/R75RhMosWGCJLrzU6

and go 488 (7-1/2 hr) to Ticonderoga NY on the second day where/when they would meet Dave S & family https://goo.gl/maps/rJPwSagrN4J61iwW7

Bruce/Tom will leave Hendersonville on Saturday 6/15/19 and drive to Hancock MD to meet DTI.  They will arrive in Ticonderoga late afternoon Sunday. Dave S in planning to leave Hendersonville on Wednesday or Thursday, pickup Brian/Shay on Saturday, and meet in Ticonderoga on Sunday.  It is unlikely anyone will tour Fort Ticonderoga.

On the back end, the to/from route would be duplicated in reverse.  B/D/T are likely to start the drive home from Ticonderoga.  D/B/S plans are uncertain.

BRIAN/SHAY
They arrive Sat afternoon at 2:35PM (Jun 16) at Newark

The return is being negotiated/arbitrated.  Hopefully Shay will leave from Newark Thursday morning, Jun 27th.
Brian needs to start back Sunday late or Monday.  Could Brian possibly ride south on 87 & 287 with you towards Newark and then jump out along your route and Uber to the Newark airport? Issue: We don't leave until Monday

MARCH 5, 2019 PLAN - CANCELLED
This revised plan has us rerouted through Hancock MD in order to pickup DTI, then proceeding to Ticonderoga NY..
Click here for Bruce's Google map link.
On the back-end it is approximately the reverse of the above .   We are essentially doing this drive in 2-1/2 days with a stop in Hancock to pickup and drop-off DTI.  I have also revised the budget to show this change.

  1. Speaking only for myself, I like the revised plan better. By revised I mean: 1) 2 days driving to and from Ticonderoga 2) another cycling day from Burlington yo Ticonderoga.

Ten hours in the van is not pleasant but I prefer that to devoting another entire day to driving. I also don't mind missing an extended tour of Ticonderoga. We'll be cycling by it on the Burlington to Ticonderoga and can stop by on our way if we desire. I'd be surprised if any of us remained interested for more than an hour. That's been my experience at sites like the Liberty Bell, Fort Sumter, and even Stonehenge. I was more impressed by cycling down Little Salt Lick road to the former Fort Blount Fort site, now a corn field, than any of the others. I'd seen in depth studies on TV of the famous places. Fort Blount was a novelty. And lastly, the revised plan suits my preference for spending more time on the bike than is spent getting to the ride via automobile. It does affect DTI somewhat by making his van time 7 1/2 hrs all in one sitting rather than being split but also cuts out a motel stay. Per my calendar we would still be getting to Hancock on June 24 and Hendersonville on June 25 which is how I had it all along. Maybe I had not allowed enough time on my first plan.
