We are staying in the Sandman across the river from Old Town Montreal.
The plan for the day is to tour Montreal on bicycles. Our route (shown below) has been suggested by Malcolm McRae of the Montreal Bicycle Club. Members of the club are planning to join us for a portion of the tour.
Best Guess Schedule
7:30: Breakfast at nearby Tim Hortons
9:00: Head for Montreal https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30237339
10:00: Start tour of Montreal (shown below). The distance to the start of the tour from the Sandman is only 3 miles (approx), but time allowed for picture taking etc.
We'll be meeting Malcolm McRae and the Montreal Bike Club at Cafe Noir at 10 AM (see details below)
12-1:00 Lunch somewhere along the way. If we are met by members of the club, we can get their recommendations.

From JC Bridge to Cafe Noir
My guess is this would be about 80 km in length. It is almost entirely on bicycle path.
See Jacques Cartier Bridge page for info on bridge crossing

Hello Tom
Montreal
has a large rental city bike system called Bixi. These bikes are
rather slow and heavy however, (they are built to last outdoors) and the
rentals are priced to be from point to point rather than all day, I
would recommend you use your own bikes.
There are two ways to get from the Sandman to downtown.
1.Take the Jacques Cartier bridge. This bridge has a bicycle path and is located very close to the Sandman.
2. Cross the Seaway at the St Lambert Lock, cycle to the old Expo 67
site (Ile Note Dame & Ile Ste Helene), from there cross the Pont de
La Concorde into Old Montreal. Obviously this is the longer route, if
you spend the day in Montreal I would take one way into town and return
on the second.
If you want to spend the day cycling around town, I would suggest the following route starting and finishing at the Sandman.
1. cross the Jacques Cartier Bridge
2. Head east to Olympic Stadium along Notre Dame
3. Return west along Rachel to Parc Mont Royal
4. Bike through the downtown along de Maissonneuve to Westmount
5. connect to the Lachine canal path to the town of Lachine
6. return from Lachine along the St Lawrence river rapids
7. return to Sandman via Expo67 site & St Lambert lockIf you want to leave the bikes stowed, you can take a subway (it is called the Metro in Montreal) from Longeuil metro station (across the street from the Sandman) to anywhere in the city. I suggest that after a days cycling you do that you take the metro to somewhere in town for the evening.
>When
you are certain of the date you will be in Montreal. Let me know and we
can do a ride around town together in MBC jerseys. I will be at home
most of the time today, and out in this evening. You can call anytime
during the day.
