OVERVIEW -Old

This 8-day bicycle tour around Lake Champlain uses the Lake Champlain Bikeway (click here). The idea originated from friends and family members of Dave Shumaker who have ridden portions of it. Fodors includes it in their Top Ten Bike Vacations.  The daily routes are on the official bike routes in New York, Quebec, and Vermont and include
  • A visit around Montreal
  • A ride on the Causeway from Vermont Islands to Burlington
The tour is supported by participants taking turns driving the SAG vehicle.  Daily distances are dictated by availability of lodging on or near the route. They typically are in the neighborhood of 60 miles.  Everyone drives a few miles each day and gets to enjoy the majority of the route. Most of this route is on roads so the SAG vehicle is never too far away and the driver gets to appreciate what the bicyclists are enjoying.

This ride emphasizes visiting points of interest along the route, such as:
  • A half-day to tour Fort Ticonderoga.
  • One and a half days touring Montreal
  • A half-day touring Burlington
Other points of interest will be added to the plan as participants identify them.

The bicyclists will drive to and meet at Ticonderoga from wherever. They will then drive home at the end of the tour in a similar fashion.

The daily schedule and GPS routes are “soft” at this time (2/13/19). We are waiting on identifying what the core group of participants want to do. We will update them and provide a SAG schedule shortly before June. To keep the expense of this trip low we are staying and sharing reasonably low-priced lodging.

Examine the daily plans, look for points that interest you, and share ideas with POSTS to this blog. If you find road issues, lodging concerns or alternatives, let us know BEFORE we lock in the dates. Your help is appreciated.
